Subak, a mouthful delight

Subak, a mouthful delight

Kuala Lumpur being steadily urbanized, chopping down its green lungs all for the sake of development, it is a surprise to find this cosy restaurant set on the hills of one of the few remaining jungle forests, Bukit Lanjan, Penchala.

Jess went there on a previous occasion for a work dinner and urged that we should pay the resto a visit.

If Jess urges me that I should do something or go to somewhere, she must have her good reasons to do so, and thus far I've never been disappointed with her selection.

So when the three of us had a gap in our schedule for an afternoon lunch together as a family, we trodded our way to this resto.

Wow, the setting was pretty nice, lots of wood, open spaces, the jungle surrounding you with its foliage and trees and all kinds of critter sounds emanating from the jungle itself, a man-made pond and other water features..........I'm game :)

Bit surprised to see the place deserted of any customers, the chef explained to us that well the vast majority of its clientele came in the eve, but nonetheless they opened their doors for noon lunch. Lucky us indeed.....we have the whole place for our own :)

As for the chef, Hassan Abdullah, a lifetime spent at renowned hotels, utilizing all his hard gained experience and knowledge at this cosy restaurant, he truly knows his stuff.

Serving predominantly a Balinese cuisine with slight infusions of other regional cuisines, a true delight for our taste buds.

We selected our dishes upon his recommendation, and gosh........even when I'm writing this down, the memories of having savoured those dishes, keeps me salivating :p

Easily the best mushroom soup I've ever had, and that's no mean feat

Crispy, prawn egg rolls

For the missus, traditional Malay fried rice with a big prawn and satays :)

Grilled Salmon with an assortiment of veggies for the little lady

A succulent double layer of lamb for yours truly
Pricing? what pricing? You get what you pay for, but Subak has managed to keep its prices affordable, they could have upped their prices and I bet nobody would have complained.....the setting is so beautiful and unique, the food is marvellous......it easily beats out all those other posh places at prime locations.

You go there for the ambience and the food, ..... if you wanna be 'seen', forget it, the jungle shrouds you and your fellow company :p

Next time you are around the area, make it a point of stopping by at Subak.

I kid you not, it is THAT good.
