After numerous flights on non-frills airlines it is definitely refreshing to be able to hop onto an airline which provides the full works.
Having previously flown Etihad myself back in 2010, http://yuenslair.blogspot.com/2010/04/most-welcome-carrier.html , it was time to indulge the two ladies of the household to this wonderful airline.
As it happened, Jess scored some fairly cheap tickets, wooohoooo.......round trip back home to Belgium, at the local travel fair in Kuala Lumpur a few months ago, and as luck would have it, we had to travel with Etihad Airlines.....not that I objected ofcourse,
And as for Jess & Laetitia, they were going in for a real treat, I kid you not.
You can just sense if from the moment you approach the posh check-in desks, you know the sensation of tinkling feelings that crawls up your spine,.......clearly this airline has spared no effort and expenses in welcoming their 'valued' travellers, be they premium or in our case, humble economy passengers.
Yups, air-hostesses and stewards are always in the 'picture' when it comes to promoting their respective airliners, but credit is due to the hardworking ground staff, and in our case, extremely helpful porters and Etihad's check-in personnel, who served us with a great smile, ensuring that our journey started on a positive note.
Abu Dhabi airport, home of Etihad Airways, might be lesser known than it's neighbour, Dubai airport, but this turns out to be a good thing, as the airport isn't that overwhelmingly huge where one can lose its way in the myriad of gates and terminals (Heathrow, JFK anyone?).
Just 2 terminals (one serving solely Etihad's flights and the other one serving all the other airlines), but ultimately linked into one grand building.
Never did we have the feeling that the terminal was crowded, immigration and security were handled in a breeze, and just for a small token, we enjoyed the amenities of one of the multitude of lounges available.
Lounges are lounges you might think (offering buffet fare, drinks a volonte, a place to rest/sleep and even shower facilities), but what struck us about this one, was the huge space it commanded, all cleverly sectioned off into separate area's (even a 24hr staffed supervised playground for the kiddo's.....and no, our girl who is technically still a 'child' didn't 'play' those kid's activities....she ain't no kid no more according to her).
And since that 'food' stands high on our priority list, we didn't need to be told twice to make ample use of it, yummy!!! :p
And the shower facilities.....suffice to say, that I wanted it transplanted to our own house......everything on hand, even a bathrobe, and spitting clean. What a way to refresh ourselves :)
The hours at the lounge flew by and must admit that we reluctantly said goodbye from this superb facility.....definitely have to make a mental note of stopping by next time again.

And then for the flight itself,....
Need I say more, a 'young' airline stuffed with cash, no wonder it can splatter it on the newest airplanes and outfit it with the latest tech and on-demand entertainment systems available on the market today.
And oh yeah, for the people amongst you who can't get enough of their personal gadgets and want it juiced up all the time, Etihad planes have been fitted out with ample power points for you to charge your gadgets' batteries.....how convenient indeed.
The flight itself was once again smooth as silk, it was so relaxing that Jess found the time and space to put a facial mask on her face and doze off into dreamland.....:p

It goes without saying that our return flights back and fro went smooth as silk, what a nice way to start our holiday indeed.
Need I say more,.....I doubt it....
